SBISD trustees have been active in Austin in the still-young
legislative session, visiting with the local delegation about recapture and the
district’s financial situation.
Trustee Chris Vierra said at Monday’s board meeting that she
thinks the message was received, and that staffs are eager to help and
recommended other key legislators to visit. Vierra said that at least two more
“waves” of trustees are scheduled to visit Austin and lawmakers.
The House seems willing to tackle school finance, and the Senate
last week named a working group to look at school finance.
The district will continue to monitor bills – both filed and
future – that affect public education, including the A-F rating system.
